چکیده

Abstract Here we present a detailed accounting of organic microfossils from late Ediacaran sediments Finland, the island Hailuoto (northwest Finnish coast), and Saarijärvi meteorite impact structure (~170 km northeast Hailuoto, mainland Finland). Fossils were recovered fine-grained thermally immature mudstones siltstones are preserved in exquisite detail. The majority forms sourced filamentous prokaryotic protistan-grade organisms forming interwoven microbial mats. Flattened Nostoc -ball-like masses bundled Siphonophycus filaments abundant, alongside Rugosoopsis Palaeolyngbya probable cyanobacterial origin. Acritarchs include Chuaria , Leiosphaeridia Symplassosphaeridium Synsphaeridium . Significantly, rare spine-shaped sclerites bilaterian origin recovered, providing new evidence for nascent fauna terminal Ediacaran. These findings offer direct body-fossil insight into mat-forming communities, demonstrate that trace fossils, detection prior to Cambrian might also be sought among emerging record small carbonaceous fossils (SCFs).

Interpreting Late Precambrian Microfossils

Chia-Wei Li et al. describe microfossils found in Doushantuo phosphate rocks from Guizhou Province, South China that are about 580 million years old (1). Well-preserved macroscopic multicellular fossils associated with prokaryotic and eukaryotic microfossils from the same source rocks have been documented in several studies (2– 6). The Doushantuo fossils are outstanding in both preservation qua...

Large spinose microfossils in Ediacaran rocks as resting stages of early animals.

Large (>100 microm), profusely ornamented microfossils comprise a distinctive paleontological component of sedimentary rocks deposited during the Ediacaran Period (635-542 million years ago). Smaller spinose fossils in Paleozoic rocks have commonly been interpreted as algal cysts or phycomata, but the Ediacaran populations differ from modern algal analogs in size, shape, ultrastructure, and int...

Ediacaran biota from Sonora, Mexico.

The Ediacaran biota is the earliest diverse community of macroscopic animals and protoctists. Body and trace fossils in the Clemente Formation of northwestern Sonora extend downward the geologic range of Ediacaran forms. Taxa present in the Clemente Formation include cf. Cyclomedusa plana, Sekwia sp., an erniettid (bearing an air mattress-like "pneu" body construction), and the trace fossils Lo...

Biogenic volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from forests in Finland

We present model estimates of biogenic volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from the forests in Finland. The emissions were calculated for the years 1995–1997 using the measured isoprene and monoterpene emission factors of boreal tree species together with detailed satellite land cover information and meteorological data. The three-year average emission is 319 kilotonnes per annum, which i...

Penetrative trace fossils from the late Ediacaran of Mongolia: early onset of the agronomic revolution

The Cambrian radiation of complex animals includes a dramatic increase in the depth and intensity of bioturbation in seafloor sediment known as the 'agronomic revolution'. This bioturbation transition was coupled with a shift in dominant trace fossil style from horizontal surficial traces in the late Precambrian to vertically penetrative trace fossils in the Cambrian. Here we show the existence...
